This is the first film adaptation of Junichiro TANIZAKI's 1933 novella. This period piece concerns the supreme love between an affluent blind woman and her devoted servant. The talented musician Okoto, teaching the koto and shamisen, is too proud to toward people and particularly coldhearted to men, but Sasuke still dreams that some day, she will return his love.
