本片為德國百大經典電影之一，全片受義大利新寫實主義啟發，也與當時的好萊塢電影別苗頭。故事敘述東柏林街頭的叛逆青年，因一時戲言打破街燈，引來警方及街頭民眾訓斥。隨後接連捲入身份證偷竊以及疑似殺人事件當中，這群街頭青年在嚴格的警察制度與關不住秘密的街頭巷尾之間，不知何去何從。

This film portrays young people in East Berlin in search of their purpose in life a few years before the Wall constructed. They want to be free, trade forbidden Western goods and avoid the constraints of their parents and the State. It is a perceptive social portrayal of a city in which political and economic division have affected the entire population.
