賈樟柯的最新作品，由十八位原上海人的自述構成，第一位是畫家陳丹青，最後一位是韓寒。影片原名《上海傳奇》，但導演認為，劇組一年來訪問了八十多位上海人，最終出現在片中的只有十八位，每個人都富有傳奇色彩，「剪輯時越來越覺得不能單純用一座城市的名字來命名這部電影，《海上傳奇》更能體現宏大與複雜的歷史感。」影片沒有按歷史次序進行線性編排，而是以情感邏輯安排結構。
JIA Zhang-Ke’s latest film is composed of 18 stories from Shanghai. The first is painter Dan-Qing CHEN, and the last is web writer Han HAN. Over 80 interviewees from Shanghai, everyone is such a legend, and only 18 are edited to the final version. Instead of telling the story linearly based on the chronological order in time, this film is structured by the emotional logic.
